💡 Quick Summary (TL;DR):
This guide covers current power specifications for over 200 countries, including 15 plug standards from Type A to Type O. It features a comprehensive comparison of 110V and 220V voltages and 50Hz/60Hz frequencies to help you determine if you need a travel adapter or voltage converter for your destination.
How hotels, tour groups, exhibitions and business trips actually choose an adapter is in the usage notes below. For a European plug, a US plug or any other international plug, use the country table first for the pin shape and the voltage.
Due to varying standards and designs adopted during the establishment of electrical systems in different countries, power socket specifications have not been fully standardized globally. As economies developed and technology advanced, these differences persisted. Additionally, safety requirements for power plugs vary across nations, including factors such as whether grounding is required, the need for safety shutters, or anti-shock features. Therefore, this article provides a comprehensive reference guide to power plug types used worldwide.

The table above is for the pin shape and the voltage at the destination. When an order is placed, hotels, tour operators, exhibitors and colleagues on the road also ask whether the person receiving it can use it, whether the body is small enough, and whether a logo will print. These are the situations we see most. A travel adapter only changes the pin shape. It does not change the voltage. A phone or laptop charger marked 100–240V can be used once the pins match. A hair dryer or shaver marked only 110V or only 220V should not be forced in as if the adapter were a transformer.
For wattage, GaN and certificates, see the travel adapter buying guide.
The socket in a hotel room is the local international plug. A Hong Kong hotel is Type G, square pins, 220V / 50Hz. A guest arriving from Japan, the United States or continental Europe may not be able to plug their own charger in. A universal adapter in the welcome pack or at the desk is more useful than stocking only a European plug or only a US plug, because the guest’s next stop may not be the same country.
Hotel orders usually turn on four points. Size: it has to fit a gift pack, a drawer or a bag. USB: the room often has one socket, and an extra USB-C lets a phone and earbuds charge together without holding the wall socket. Fuse: a British Type G plug has a fuse inside; if the travel adapter includes a UK pin, a replaceable fuse adds a layer when a room socket makes poor contact. Logo: the face needs enough area for the hotel name to stay readable. A very fine mark goes muddy on a small face. For guests who stay on the continent, a European Type C/F round pin at about 230V / 50Hz already matches Germany and France. A US hotel is Type A/B, 120V / 60Hz.
Travellers on a group tour do not each look up the pin type. Japan is flat pins, continental Europe is round, the UK and Hong Kong are square. One universal plug covers the first night through the last. If the itinerary stays on the continent, a European plug is enough. Add the UK, Singapore or Hong Kong and you need Type G. A European round pin does not go into a square wall socket.
A group model has to be small, because the suitcase is already full. More than one USB is the practical choice: a hotel room or a coach stop rarely has enough sockets to take turns. The agency name on the shell lasts longer than the itinerary sheet. For phones, 20–40W USB-C is enough. If someone on the tour also charges a thin laptop, look at something in the 65W class. A multi-port rating is the total output, not the figure on every port.
At an overseas booth the power is the host city’s international plug, not the plug at head office. Germany, France and Italy use European Type C/E/F, about 220–240V / 50Hz. A US show uses Type A/B, 120V / 60Hz. If the exhibitor’s own charger says 100–240V, a travel adapter with the matching pins is enough. A UK show needs Type G, which does not interchange with a European round pin.
A giveaway at the booth has two extra constraints: it has to be small enough for a handbag, and the logo has to stay readable after the visitor leaves the hall. A USB-C model with PD lets a visitor charge a phone at the stand and still carry your name away. If the same unit then flies on to the next city, universal pins last longer than a single European or US set. Fuse and earth depend on the model. Say which country the show is in when you order, so the pins match.
A day on the road usually means a phone, earbuds, and sometimes a thin laptop. Phone and earbuds: 20–40W is enough. Add the laptop and most people look at 65W GaN, so the body still fits a briefcase. USB PD 3.0 commonly goes up to 100W. The PD 3.1 specification can go to 240W, which gift models rarely reach. Several USB ports share one total output. Two devices together split it.
Japan then the United States: both use flat pins, but the voltage is not the same. Japan is about 100V (50Hz in the east, 60Hz in the west), the United States is 120V / 60Hz, Taiwan is 110V / 60Hz. The charger itself has to accept a wide voltage. Fly on to continental Europe and the pins change to the European round type. Three single-region adapters weigh more than one universal unit, and it is easy to pack the wrong one. A meeting gift handed out in one city only needs that city’s pins. Not everyone needs a full set of international plugs.
Past custom travel-adapter orders include STACCATO, HKMU and a dual-USB travel adapter for China Unicom. Open each one for the model and the photos. To compare current models, start from the travel adapter catalogue.
